December 14th - on this day in 1972, NASA astronauts Eugene Cernan and Harrison Schmitt lifted off from the surface of the Moon onboard Apollo lunar module Challenger's ascent stage, docking to Apollo command and service module America, piloted by Ronald Evans, approx. two hours later.
